Canyon, Walrus, Glow and River

First the canyon! Well, we went to the Grand Canyon. It was so much fun, but was also very hard work hiking into and out of the Bright Angel Camp ground at the bottom of the Canyon. Hiking down was 8 miles along the S. Kaibab trail, and the hike out was 10 miles on the Bright Angel Trail.

Second Walrus. We carried a walrus all the way to camp. The Walrus is not what you may be thinking it is. Any guesses? Dad said it was a tent, but I thought we were going to sleep in an actual Walrus stomach. However, it turns out that the walrus was actually a big ol’ tent.

Third Glow. You may be wondering what would be glowing in the bottom of Grand Canyon? Well let me tell you! SCORPIONS! Glowing Scorpions! It might sound crazy, but if you shine a black light on a scorpion it will glow bright green. In my tent Mom was checking for scorpions and shone the light on my white underwear. They glowed! When I told my brother about my underpants glowing he suggested they were made of scorpion bits.

Fourth River. My brother, his friend Gerard and I played in the bright angel creek that flowed near our campsite. While wadding I fell in, brrrrrr it was very cold. With the help of Jerry, Gerard’s Dad, we built a dam with river rocks to create a pool. Mom soaked her legs in our pool.

This trip was fun! Have you ever been top the Grand Canyon?

Fun at our family campout

This summer while we were camping I went hiking up a creek. I fell in two times :-( We also went fishing at Big Lake...and Uncle Jeff fell in :-) For the first time ever we had "movie night" in the woods. Uncle John had a generator, laptop and projector and he played the movie on the wall of the "super dome" tent. Below is a video of our family putting up the huge tent.

Last Saturdays Hike!

Last Saturday I went hiking with my family: Mom, Dad and Brother. It was very hot but when we were walking home Dad sprayed us with water to cool us down.

We only hiked three miles because we ran out of time. We had to get to REI to buy some equipment for our next big adventure...The Grand Canyon!

That's right, I'm Doin' it! I'm only eight! WOOHOOO!

We are spending two nights at the Bright Angel Camp ground, next to the Colorado river, in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I'm very excited!

This is me on the trail near our home.

See ya later alligator!
